Punchbowl Golf Design is a full service design and development firm. We believe we can be of help to anyone who desires to develop a high-end golf experience, both private and public, or needs help upgrading or restoring an existing course to meet today’s market needs. Through careful study of not only the world’s best golf courses, but also the overall experience that lingers with and draws a golfer back, we bring a perspective that is both refined and bold to any project.

We won’t bore you by trotting out the same mumbo-jumbo marketing lines that every architect and design firms espouse. Sure we will work with the land (and we will, rather than just say it).  Sure we will build courses that challenge every level of player. It’s been said a hundred times, over and over. What we will build is courses that embody the spirit of golf. They will be great environments to be outside, experiencing the natural environment, hopefully with a good group of friends. That is our ultimate goal, because when you boil it all down, that is what golf is all about.

We are a deign/build firm. While we have the ability to produce copious plans for a contractor to use, our experience is that great golf courses are built in the dirt. We will get dirty and we will love doing so. Will Smith has been involved with golf course construction for a decade, working his way from a simple laborer at the Sheep Ranch to shaping the Dunes Course at the Prairie Club for Tom Lehman. During that time, he earned a Masters in Landscape Architecture at the University of Georgia, where he also taught a class in golf course design. Colin Sheehan, now the coach of the Yale golf team, spent years as an editor of The Golfer Magazine. He took an extended sabbatical in 2006 and 2007 in order to spend a year in the Scottish Highlands participating on the construction of the Castle Stuart Golf Links for Mark Parsinen and Cornerstone Golf.

It is our goal to be involved in all elements of the development process from site selection, to helping raise funds, to selling memberships. Our variety of experiences in golf, allow us to access a wide array of talented people in all elements of the golf world. We will not hesitate to access this resource to make sure a project is as good and as successful as it can be.
