OLD MAC #7

Another great video featuring Tom Doak talking with John Dunn at Old Macdonald. This time they are on the seventh hole and are discussing how the green came to be placed on the top of the ridge with a great look at the Pacific Ocean. The most interesting part may be when Tom tells how [...]

MORE OLD MAC

This is a first of a series of videos commissioned by Josh Lesnik and Kemper Sports to promote the new course at Bandon Dunes. It is hosted by our good friend John Dunn, who is a golf journalist when he is not caddying at places like Pacific Dunes or Augusta National. The video features interviews [...]

HYDROSEEDING

The fourth hole at Castle Stuart being hydroseeded in late July, 2007. The pure-fescue mixture, along with a tacifier and special organic fertilizer (chicken manure) were applied with the help of most of the construction crew. The music, taken from “Fallout From the Phil Zone”, is a gesture to course archtiect Gil Hanse.

WE COULDN’T HAVE SAID IT BETTER

While traveling last week, I missed this great article at Out & Back by Dave Zinkhand. For anyone who cares about golf and golf architecture, it is a must read.

JIM URBINA & OLD MAC (PART TWO)

In the second part of my interview with Jim Urbina from this past February out in Bandon, Jim talks about the bold features that the team incorporated into the design at Old Macdonald. The greens are some of the wildest that I have ever seen on any golf course. The sixth hole at the National [...]

KYLE FRANZ

I have worked with Kyle Franz on a number of projects, most recently at the Prairie Club for Tom Lehman and Chris Brands. Kyle is an immensely talented person, who is almost singularly obsessed with golf course architecture. He has worked on some of the best courses built in the past ten years including Pacific [...]

CHECHESSEE CREEK CLUB

Full Disclosure: I have been a member of this club since 2003 and it is one on my favorite places in the world.
Chechessee Creek is located halfway between Hilton Head and Beaufort, SC and only forty minutes from Savannah. The Coore/Crenshaw low-profile design is an excellent example of how a short course can play much [...]

JIM URBINA & OLD MACDONALD

Jim Urbina has quietly been Tom Doak’s right hand man on such projects as Pacific Dunes, Apache Stronghold and the Rawls Course at Texas Tech. At Old Macdonald, which will fully open in 2010, he has been elevated to the title of co-designer. I have had the pleasure of working with Jim on a number [...]

FRENCH CREEK- #17 BUNKER PROJECT

[vimeo width="600" height="320"]http://www.vimeo.com/1964441[/vimeo]
This past spring I spent a little time helping out Jim Wagner of Hanse Golf Course Design at French Creek Golf Club in Elverson, PA. I was there to assist in making a few changes to a number of bunkers mostly due to maintenance issues. This video shows the work that was done [...]
