Alas and alack and cow patties in my crumpet, this week’s pictorial homage from me must go to the best public course ‘tween the Mississippi and the Colorado Rivers, if not further afield, the Wild Horse Golf Club. I know that the moving-picture show has visited the course recently for PBG in rightful commendation of Josh Mahar’s exceptional care taking, but I must mention WH again as my plan to visit this weekend has been tragically stripped away by an unforeseen debutant frenzy. Maybe I am just a pushover because Dan Proctor and Dave Axland are old drinking buddies, and the extreme talent of Bunker Hll Golf Design isn’t smacking all visitors in the face as for me when I visit, but I find this course flat-out majestic. Artistic bunkering judiciously placed and recovery shots aplenty for the wayward duffer desirous of a challenge to overcome. Broad shouldered greens complexes and sweeping fairway contours to deflect and entice. Rough that, while gorgeous and with bite, will not forever swallow all balls. The firmest fairways in the Sand Hills. The opportunity to encounter a real tumbleweed.
A must and achievable play for all golfers–by me this weekend, you will be missed.
