To my mind, the Black Course at Bethpage will always stand as the protypical ‘head-and-shoulders pattern’ golfing venue, and this particular signal to me here is bearish, both for what is done to the psyche of the duffer and how the shot requirements fail to be as varied as they might (long, straight, high…miss, flop). This example of the pattern is the 6th green, at the tail end of a rollercoaster approach and hidden from the teeing ground. A fortunately accessible golf course and a grueling test with a major championship environment unlike any other, I just wish the greens had a little more action and it was 300 yards shorter in accomplishing those feats.
